The Weekly Playlist – Nov. 21 to Nov. 27

A plague of Rush dominated the personal airwaves this week starting with the second and longest leg of our tour south for Thanksgiving on Sunday. I continued with the three men from Willowdale during the week and 90s influenced our trip home today. Rush – various albums Hold Your Fire and Test for Echo helped pass the time on Sunday along the 5 freeway in California and when we got in range of 95.5 KLOS, classic Rock for Southern California, I tried the station and Metallica’s “One” was playing! We left KLOS on for a bit switching back and forth … Continue reading The Weekly Playlist – Nov. 21 to Nov. 27

The Weekly Playlist – Nov. 14 to Nov. 20

Just finished one of the busiest weeks in listening yet! I continued the process of getting reacquainted with those albums I reviewed this year to determine the Top 10 Best of 2021 but the big push came with the long Thanksgiving road trip that began today. My wife chose 80s music for the drive thus the reason for the two of bands with similar members. Usually, she doesn’t like what I bring but this time she asks, after we’re already underway, where is Metallica? Motley Crue? Styx? REO Speedwagon? I didn’t bring any of those because she only likes a … Continue reading The Weekly Playlist – Nov. 14 to Nov. 20

The Weekly Playlist – Nov. 7 to Nov. 13

A busy week of listening with concert prep (should be there upon this post going live) and the laborious effort of deciding the best albums of 2021. Everclear (various) Everclear concert tonight! Hopefully better than last time. Refreshed with some of their hits, some deeper cuts like “Portland Rain” which would make complete sense if played, and listened through their last album just in case they played some off it. Not looking forward to the venue or heading downtown, but I got someone else to drive. Woo hoo! Wheatus – Teenage Dirtbag and A Little Respect (songs) So, Wheatus opens … Continue reading The Weekly Playlist – Nov. 7 to Nov. 13

The Weekly Playlist – Oct. 31 to Nov. 6

A pretty deliberate attempt this week to getting in some listening, the whole point of The Weekly Playlist. Some new music, one of them a surprise, and a favorite album from the past escorted me across the border into Washington. Let’s take a look: Athey Music – Goodness & Mercy (album) A new group or “collective” as they put it, out of Portland, OR, released their first album yesterday. A very nice collection of songs that were written as a result of the pandemic and lockdowns. Check out the review of Goodness & Mercy. Rush – Signals (album) Earlier this … Continue reading The Weekly Playlist – Oct. 31 to Nov. 6

The Weekly Playlist – Oct. 24 to Oct. 30

Nearly two years since I last prepped for a concert! Therefore, much of the week centered around a deep dive with Toad the Wet Sprocket. But I also managed another new album review and listened to a few more singles released from a local group. On the surface not a whole lot of music but read on, I actually listened to quite a bit… And then I discovered three Alex Lifeson demos released from his archive. Toad the Wet Sprocket – Starting Now (album) and various songs A listened to their new album Starting Now again which I reviewed in … Continue reading The Weekly Playlist – Oct. 24 to Oct. 30

The Weekly Playlist – Oct. 17 to Oct. 23

All albums this week no individual songs. It doesn’t seem like much, just the four entries, but I listened to Duran Duran’s latest multiple times as well as No Doubt’s first album. Takes a lot of work sometimes to write something fair and accurate, at least from my point of view, and even then, some doubts (not no doubts) can creep in. Thus, the debut album series I started earlier this year returned after a few months off and an anniversary brought out the vinyl, a far better experience than streaming. Rush – Counterparts (album) The highest-ranking ever Rush album … Continue reading The Weekly Playlist – Oct. 17 to Oct. 23

The Weekly Play List – Oct. 10 to Oct. 16

A couple of new listens this week, not only new releases but also new to me. I also happened upon, meaning, I forgot I had the album when searching for something to listen in the car. See, the Weekly Playlist works as I normally would have left the house without anything in hand.   Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 2 Soundtrack (album) My nephew has amazing music tastes for a kid his age, one of the many things I love about him. He has found bands on his own as well as those I nudge him towards. He’s mostly a … Continue reading The Weekly Play List – Oct. 10 to Oct. 16

The Weekly Playlist – Oct. 3 to Oct. 9

What started as a just few rock bands ended with a Saturday rush of music that helped fill out the week with a broader scope of music. Two, maybe three obvious rock bands, arguably one falls more in line with pop rock but still a rock band and the other I’m not so sure about anymore. Two different genres fell into play thanks to Amazon music. Rush (various songs) See if you notice a pattern in these songs. Expect a forthcoming Rush post. Everyday Glory La Villa Strangiato Cygnus X-1 Natural Science Countdown Available Light The Garden Working Man In … Continue reading The Weekly Playlist – Oct. 3 to Oct. 9

The Weekly Playlist – Sept. 26 to Oct. 2

Already five of these Weekly Playlists! So far, the idea behind posting what I listened to the previous week works because I am not only listening to more music but also bands and artists I likely would have filed away and never got around to listening. Case in point… BTS – Butter, Permission to Dance, My Universe (songs) OK, listen. In a strange coinkydink, I did not know who BTS was but at the same time I did. Last week’s Weekly Playlist brought them to light so I decided to jump in. Turns out I’m not too out of touch … Continue reading The Weekly Playlist – Sept. 26 to Oct. 2
