My internal deliberations to put this website to bed tends to come undone with a new idea.
Ironically, I don’t listen to music all that much just those albums I review, whether old or new releases, and when concerts were a thing, I’d dive into albums of the coming feature.
Yesterday, after listening to several albums I thought, why not a weekly music round-up or some type of list of those bands I listened to and the individual songs and/or albums. Thus, Weekly Playlist was born. Then I thought it was stupid. Then I thought, maybe it would be cool. Then, dumb idea. So, I slept on it.
With the start of a new month, I decided to give the Weekly Playlist a go for the rest of the year. Hopefully, I’ll remember to post every Saturday! But one reason I decided on this venture is to force me to listen to more music. I have found when I do make an active effort, I miss it and music truly does soothe the soul.
The Weekly Play list will be a basic list with maybe small commentary but nothing to take too much of your time. So, I give you The Weekly Playlist for the week of August 29 – September 4, 2021:
- Rush – Roll the Bones (album)
September 3 marked the 30th anniversary of Roll the Bones. I reviewed it last year, not wanting to wait another year for a more appropriate review for the 30th. Roll the Bones is the first Rush album I have deliberately listened to since Neil Peart died.
- Imagine Dragons – Mercury – Act 1 (album)
Imagine Dragons fifth studio album, Mercury – Act 1, came out on the 30th anniversary of Roll the Bones. Just thought I’d mention it. The release has nothing to do with Rush, but I reviewed it.
- Duran Duran – Astronaut (album)
It was in the car.
- Duran Duran – Anniversary (single)
Duran Duran’s newest single release off their forthcoming album Future Past. I reviewed the first two singles but passed on this one and likely will on the expected fourth release. Expect a review of the album though.
That’s it. Next week should be much longer with less words!
I love the comment on Astronaut. You only listened because it was in the car. I miss that I don’t have a CD player in my car. Someday maybe I’ll have one added.
no CD player? old car or new? I’m hearing new cars are leaving them out.
It is a newer car. They are leaving them out. It sucks!!
Great stuff and cool idea. Look forward to this. RTB’s I need to grab that one on vinyl.
Geddys bass would crush on vinyl. Production on this album is so good.
Oh yeah for sure. I can tell you the vinyl version of Counterparts is so heavy on the production. That one is easily in my Top 5 RUSH albums.
I too have internal deliberations to put my blog to bed too Drew, so I understand your feelings. That said, it’s good to try new things from time to keep from getting bored, and also keep our blogs fresh. I’m not nearly as adventurous as some bloggers, but I try new things every once in a while, though not nearly enough. I think your idea of writing about music you’ve listened to over the previous week is a good one.
Thanks for the comment. Some days, I’m ready to call it a day. I do think your weekly Top 30 has partially influenced this new venture! Checking it out every week probably stirred something over time. I like lists and it’s a pretty easy thing to do!
Thanks so much Drew. Glad I gave you a bit of inspiration.
I’m trying to listen to my albums more, but sadly I feel like I have to force myself to do so at times because youtube is taking over big time! But whenever, I get a chance to listen to my albums, I enjoy it. I think these weekly playlist posts are a cool idea!
Thanks! I am in same boat, feels like an effort but once they get playing you remember why you likje it.
That’s so cool I can relate with you on that! I totally agree. Once the music starts playing, it’s all good!
